To begin with, I sketched a storyboard outlining the main scenes. I also created concept drawings to define the appearance of the alien creature.

The alien design was concepted in Photoshop, visualized through sculpting in ZBrush, outfitted in Marvelous Designer, prepared in Maya, and textured in Substance Painter.

Footage
Footage
To capture a wide range of different footage, I choose a forest location close to my hometown. The 4k camera footage was captured with various tools - including a friend of mine Jonas, who helped me out with some drone shots. Thanks for that!
Before proceeding, the scanned mesh required some retouching, as reflections from elements like hair, beard, and eyes caused artifacts during the photogrammetry process.
Additional geometry was also modeled separately to enhance realism and add a more personal touch to the result.

Compositing was done in Cinema 4D with captured footage and the motion tracker tool. The final images were rendered in Redshift, exported as EXR layers, and received only minimal post-editing, as the focus was on a pure concept.
